Vibration testing of packs to assess their performance under transport conditions is discussed, with special reference to the dynamic behaviour of packs under conditions of circulatory harmonic vibration. Forces acting on a pack under vibration testing are discussed. Tests showed that packs started to rock at vibration frequencies lower than values which are calculated to result in the pack briefly leaving the surface of the vibration table. The theoretical basis of this rocking behaviour is discussed. Effects of coeff. of friction between the pack and the vibration table surface and the position of the centre of gravity of the pack are considered.
