Abstract

A xylose isomerase (D-ketol isomerase EC 5.3.1.5) from Streptomyces coelicolor A3 (2) was purified by conventional techniques to apparent homogeneity. The Mr of the sub-unit of the enzyme was 40 000 and the enzyme was composed of 4 such sub-units. The enzyme was optimally active at pH 7.0 and at 70
