Abstract

Effect of citrate on subunit structure of arachin was monitored by velocity sedimentation, viscosity and circular dichroism techniques. As concn. of citrate ion increased from 25 to 150mM, arachin dissociated progressively to the low mol. wt. 2S component. This dissociation was not accompanied by any conformational changes or denaturation, as revealed by the far UV circular dichroic spectra and viscosity results, resp. Results are explained by direct anion binding and changes in solvent structure.
